Let Love Heal
Your first image of love and support is often your Family.
From the moment we're born, our families determine our view on care and affection. They teach us about love, kindness, and acceptance. Their words and actions can profoundly impact our self-esteem and how we view ourselves. When our families show us love and acceptance, it helps us develop a strong foundation of self-love. They celebrate our achievements, embrace our quirks, and encourage us to be authentic. Their unwavering support creates a safe space to be ourselves without fear of judgment.
But what if our family dynamics aren't so positive?
Sometimes, families can unintentionally contribute to feelings of self-doubt or low self-worth. Maybe there's criticism or comparison, or they struggle with their insecurities and fail to manage their expressions. It's important to remember that this isn't your fault. You deserve love and acceptance just as much as anyone else.
Building self-love in challenging family dynamics can be tricky, but it's possible.
Romans 8:38-39 says, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Embracing this truth can help you see your worthiness and value in God's eyes. I learned something profound while listening to Sunmisola and Yinka Oyedele (two Nigerian gospel artists). If the whole world discards you, there is one who will never throw you away. If you tell him your problems, he will never make it a tale. If you accept that he loves you, he will fill you. God's love for us is bound by covenant, accepting that love is medicine. Even when you feel down and your reactions remind you of familiar family patterns, you can always fall before him, and he will pick you back up. "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those crushed in spirit." Pour your heart into Him, seeking comfort, healing, and guidance. Spend time reading scriptures that remind you of God's love and promises, such as Psalm 139:14, which says, "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful. I know that full well." You are God's masterpiece, and no one may have ever told you how important or valuable you are; I want you to know that the one that gave you breath, gave you life because he wanted you; he needed you; let that sink in.
Paul spoke about how convictions are solidified; he said the words we speak will move from being on our lips to our hearts and back unto our lips. This means that you may not believe it at first, but if you stay with the word long enough, it imprints on your spirit, and when you speak that word, it now comes from a place of belief and trust.
I know that love looks pretty far-fetched for you. You feel you may never be able to love without bringing hurt, and it's because you never got the proper picture of what love is. The beautiful thing is all hope is not lost, God has a way tailor-made for your healing journey. You are not alone, you are not stranded, and you are not self-sufficient. Let God, who knows the best way to fix you, help you.
Remember, building self-love is a journey, and it may take time. Be patient and kind to yourself along the way. Surround yourself with love and support, whether from your family or chosen family(a godly community). You deserve to love and accept yourself fully, just as you are.
Every post sets us free because God's words are new, even to the writer. I have learned much from today's post, and I hope you have too. God loves you, and I hope you love you, too, because you are worth every bit of love.
