Choose Yourself Love!

Grab a cup of coffee, pull up a chair, and let's have a little heart-to-heart talk about something that might be weighing on your mind: toxic relationships. Yep, I know it's not the most pleasant topic, but stick with me because I promise there's hope and wisdom to be found in the midst of it all.

We are often taught the importance of love, forgiveness, and selflessness. While those are undoubtedly beautiful qualities to embody, sometimes we misunderstand what they truly mean in the context of relationships, especially toxic ones. There's this misconception that staying in a toxic relationship is somehow noble or selfless. We tell ourselves we're patient, forgiving, and enduring, just like Jesus taught us. But here's the thing: Jesus never intended for us to endure toxicity in the name of love. In fact, He desires so much more for us.

In the Bible, we're reminded time and time again of our worth and value in God's eyes. We're called His beloved children, fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. And let me tell you, friend, that truth extends far beyond the confines of a toxic relationship. Choosing yourself doesn't mean abandoning your faith or disregarding the importance of love and forgiveness. Instead, it means recognising your worth as a child of God and refusing to settle for anything less than the abundant life He promises us.

When we stay in toxic relationships, we're essentially saying that our worth is dependent on the approval or affection of another person. But as Christians, we know that our worth comes from a much higher source. It comes from the God who created us, loves us unconditionally, and desires the best for our lives. So, how do we navigate the tricky waters of leaving a toxic relationship from this perspective?

First and foremost, turn to God in prayer. Pour out your heart to Him, and ask for wisdom, clarity, and strength to make the right decision. Remember, God is always listening and cares deeply about your happiness and well-being. Please don't go through this journey alone. Reach out to a trusted pastor, mentor, or Christian counselor who can provide sound advice and support. Sometimes, an outside perspective can shed light on things we might not see clearly ourselves.

You must know establishing boundaries in relationships is crucial, especially in toxic relationships. Identify unacceptable behaviours and communicate them clearly to your partner based on God's word and your persona. Remember, setting boundaries is not selfish; it's an act of self-love and respect.

Take time to prioritise your own well-being. Engage in activities that bring you joy, whether spending time in nature, taking up your hobbies, or journaling your thoughts and feelings. Remember, self-care isn't selfish. It's essential for your mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

Sometimes, you really need no external help because you know the truth. Please walk away. Remember, choosing yourself doesn't mean abandoning the other person or harboring bitterness and resentment. It means loving them enough to recognise that staying in a toxic relationship isn't healthy for either of you. It means praying for their healing and growth, even if that means doing so from a distance.

Above all, choosing yourself means trusting and confiding in God's plan for your life. It means believing that He has something beautiful in store for you, even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone and into the unknown. So, if you find yourself caught in the grips of a toxic relationship, I want to encourage you today. You are loved, valued, and cherished beyond measure by the One who created you. In His eyes, choosing yourself is an act of faith, courage, and trust in His unfailing love.
